Dear Friends,

It was a shock yesterday to receive the letter from the Archbishops asking us to stop public worship 'for a season'.   'Our usual pattern of Sunday services and other mid-week gatherings must be put on hold.'

The Government has in these last few days changed its advice, based on evidence from China and Italy, and introduced stringent measures of 'social distancing'.  It is reasonable to request the Church to play her part in this.   The Prime Minister has said that this is 'to slow the spread of the disease, reduce the peak, to save lives, minimise the suffering and give our NHS the chance to cope'.

A number of you have expressed anxiety about people who may feel fearful and isolated.   Do let the clergy know of any concerns you may have for others or for yourself.   The Church will remain open for private prayer.  We remain united together in prayer and we shall be writing again about how we might do this.

Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy in this time of uncertainty and distress. Sustain and support the anxious and fearful, and lift up all who are brought low; that we may rejoice in your comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Amen.

In Christ,  + Peter

A Pastoral Letter from Bishop Peter, our Priest in Charge. ALL PUBLIC SERVICES ARE SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
